Got a Cursor Pro promo code from MLH

An email with a Cursor Pro promo code arrived from MLH. This is a benefit received by registering for Global Hack Week: Hacktoberfest. For anyone unfamiliar with the event, I've put together the details below.

What is Global Hack Week: Hacktoberfest?

This event is a joint promotion between Cursor and MLH (Major League Hacking). Once you complete registration, MLH will send a Cursor Pro promo code to the email address you provided when signing up.

The event runs online from October 9 to 15, 2026, and it's free to join. You can also register without a student email account.

How to take part

If you want to receive the same email as I did, just follow these steps.

1. Create an MLH account and register on the Global Hack Week: Hacktoberfest event page.
2. Install the Cursor desktop app and create a Cursor account.
3. Find the promo code in the email sent by the MLH team.
4. Upgrade to Pro under Billing & Invoices in the Cursor dashboard and enter the code.

The code is not applied automatically. You have to enter it yourself during the upgrade step for the benefit to take effect.

What to check after you receive it

• MLH decides when the codes are sent. I'm not sure yet whether everyone who takes part gets one.
• If a screen asks for payment details, check the renewal terms and billing timing first.
• It's not stated whether existing paid subscribers are eligible.

Wrap-up

I've received my code, so all that's left is entering it under Billing & Invoices. If you didn't get the email, check the address you registered with before the event ends on October 15.
